Privacy policy
Last updated 17 September 2026
Acquire is a language learning app made by Acquire For Life. This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: your learning record stays on your device, audio and text go to an AI provider only when you agree, and we do not track you or sell anything about you.
Data stored on your device
Your chosen languages, saved words, conversation history and progress are stored on your iPhone or iPad. We do not upload this record. Deleting the app deletes it.
Audio and text sent for AI processing
Conversations are powered by OpenAI. When you agree to AI processing in the app, the audio you speak and the text you type or select are sent to OpenAI to generate replies and meanings. Acquire does not save your raw audio. OpenAI processes this data under its own privacy policy and retention rules. If you do not agree, you can still browse your saved words and conversations, but you cannot start a new conversation.
The current events theme runs web searches to find real news to talk about. The search terms come from the conversation and are not linked to a profile.
Optional account
You can use Acquire without an account by providing your own OpenAI API key, which is stored in the device keychain and never sent to us. If you sign in with Google, we store an account identifier, your verified email address and the time the account was created. We use this only to run your account. You can delete the account from Settings, then Account, at any time. Deletion removes your email and sign-in identities.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No analytics SDKs and no sale or sharing of personal data.
- No claims about what you have learned beyond what your own conversations show.
Children
Acquire is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
